Please keep in mind payments must be received on or before the 15th to avoid a penalty. U.S. Postmarks, postage meter indication or foreign postmarks are not acceptable for determining timeliness of mailing.
The City of Van Wert offer five (5) methods to pay your bill:
- By Mail
- In Person
- Bank Draft (Found on the website under “Direct Payment Application” or picked up in the office)
- Drop Box (located on the West side of the building)
- Online by Debit / Credit Card
If your water has been disconnected due to delinquency, your balance and a re-connection fee must be paid before your service will be restored.
***If making a payment online, please be aware that you will need to pay the re-connection fee under “Re-Connection Fee”. ***
Payments in person may be made at the walk-up window next to the elevator within the Municipal Building. A handicap entrance is at the rear of the building. Other visitor parking is located on the west side of the building. Drive up payments are available along with envelope deposits placed in the drop-off slot.

Please bring your bill with you when making a payment so the correct account is credited.
Usage bills are due 15 days after the mailing date. A 10% penalty is a required part of payment after the due date. When a payment has not been received, a notice of delinquency is mailed within 3 days after the due date. Five days after the mailing of the notice of delinquency, services can be discontinued if all fees have not been paid.
During the quarterly readings of water use, members of this department watch for abnormally high usage, which may indicate a water leak. When a condition has been noted, as a courtesy the customer is notified by phone; or a high usage alert notice is mailed. Customers are encouraged to contact the water office if they have a reason to suspect a leak.
