Civil Service Promotional Exam for the Van Wert Fire Department for Fire Lieutenant

NOTICE OF

EXAMINATION FOR POSITION OF LIEUTENANT

VAN WERT FIRE DEPARTMENT

A written examination for the position of Lieutenant in the Van Wert Fire Department will be conducted at 9:00 A.M. on December 2, 2023; in the Council Chambers of the City Building.

Posting:  One written examination and two oral examination will be given. The oral exams are scheduled for December 9 at 8:00 A.M. and December 12 at 9:00 A.M. The result(s) of this/these examinations(s) will be used to fill the position of one (l) Lieutenant when the position becomes open, in the order of ranking in the examinations.

Applications:  Applicants must submit their intention to take the written examination, in writing, to the following address no later than 3:00 P.M. on October 6, 2023.

Qualifications:  To be qualified to take the written examination, the Applicant must be serving in the position of Firefighter for at least forty eight (48) months, not including the person’s probationary period.

Examination Content:  The competitive examination will consist of the following:

1.  A written examination conducted by the Resource Management Company (RMC) on behalf of the Van Wert Civil Service Commission covering material that will be set forth in the study       instructions.  The applicant must score at least 70% on the examination to be eligible for the oral examination.
2.  An oral assessment examination and presentation interview may be conducted by the Resource Management Company (RMC) on behalf of the Van Wert Civil Service Commission, as deemed necessary by the Civil Service Commission.
3.  Seniority points will be added after the average of he written and oral test are combined.
4.  Psychological evaluation may be requested by the Commission.

Study Instructions:  Study instructions and material will be made available to all applicants at the Office of the Chief of the Department on October 13, 2023 at 1:00 P.M.  Study instructions must be strictly adhere to and violations thereof may result in disqualification.
