Eligible candidates will be notified in writing of the scheduled date\, time\, and location following the close of the application period. \nIn accordance with Civil Service rules\, the eligibility list established from this examination shall remain in effect for a period of two (2) years or until exhausted. \nPosting \nOne (1) oral examination will be administered. The results of this examination will be used to fill the position of one (1) Deputy Fire Chief in the Van Wert Fire Department\, in the order of ranking as determined by the examination process. \nApplications \nApplicants must submit written notice of their intention to participate in the promotional examination no later than 4:00 p.m. on February 27\, 2026\, to: \nVan Wert Municipal Civil Service Commission\nAttn: Tina Miller\, Commission Secretary\n515 E. Main Street\, Room 203\nVan Wert\, Ohio 45891 \nQualifications \nTo be eligible to participate in the Deputy Fire Chief promotional examination\, an applicant must: \n\nBe currently serving in the rank of Captain within the Van Wert Fire Department\nNot be serving a probationary period\nMeet all minimum qualifications established by the Van Wert Municipal Civil Service Commission\n\nExamination Content \nThe promotional examination will consist of an Oral Board Interview conducted on behalf of the Van Wert Municipal Civil Service Commission. The board will evaluate each candidate’s ability to perform the duties of Deputy Fire Chief\, including leadership\, training oversight\, fire prevention administration\, and organizational management. \nA minimum passing score will be established by the Civil Service Commission. Seniority credit\, if applicable\, will be added in accordance with Commission policy. A psychological evaluation or additional assessment may be required at the discretion of the Commission. \nCivil Service Commission

(Applicant cannot be appointed to a position on or after 43rd birthday)\nApplicant must be a United States citizen or possess a valid permanent resident card.\nApplicant must have earned a high school degree or GED\nApplicant must possess a valid Driver’s License.
